Electrical and Electronics Engineering as of 2020

With the university exam results announced in the past days, the students’ choice marathon has started. In this process, students and families engage in various researches about which department should be preferred and why. In this article, we will talk about the quota numbers of Electrical Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Electronics-Communication Engineering and Electronics Engineering programs in universities , supply and demand conditions in the public and private sectors in order to help them a little bit .

Electrical and Electronics Engineering

First of all, let’s take a look at the quotas divided into the departments we mentioned above for 2020. All quotas in State, Foundation and Private Universities are included in the numbers.

  • Electrical Engineering 585 students,
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering 9938 students,
  • Electronic Engineering 80 students,
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering including 679 students,

In total, 11282 students quota has been allocated separately for Electrical and Electronics Engineering departments . The total number of quotas allocated in 2019 was determined as 12339 people. Together , we see a reduction of approximately 1000 people in quotas compared to what we have done in this way . We can mostly attribute this to the closure of evening education programs.

Also worth noting again that, allocated to candidates last year 12339 people of quotas 10228 candidates separated by a portion of the minibus, in 2111 the portion allocated to candidates remained empty. In other words , if any candidate who was below the 300.000 success ranking of the ÖSYM for Engineering programs had chosen any of the universities that were in the vacant quotas, they could be placed in the relevant program. However, as can be seen, although the ranking of success is sufficient, it is seen that some students do not include these programs in their preference lists.

Now, assuming that you want to choose any of these programs, I will give you information about the courses in the content of the department and the work that can be done about the department in the future.

In the Electrical and Electronics Engineering programs we have mentioned, there are multiple courses taught jointly besides basic engineering courses. Moreover, many courses are taught as elective courses in 3rd and 4th grade, and students who prefer the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering can choose Electric or Electronics / Computer based courses according to the field they want to specialize in. All of our fellow students who intend to take part in the profession as a Self-Employed Consultant (SMM) will be authorized to sign documents less than 1 kV provided that they graduate from any of the departments we have mentioned above.

However, in order to have a signature authorization above 1 kV, they must be graduated from Electrical Engineering or Electrical-Electronics Engineering and their transcripts include ” Electrical Machines, Transmission Systems, Distribution Systems, Power Systems, Energy Systems, Electrical Installations, Protection, High Voltage Technique. They must have taken at least 3 of the courses given with different names and have the same content as these courses. Some of these courses are offered by universities through continuing education centers. In other words, after graduation, you have the chance to take these courses for a certain fee. It is useful to know that the situation we are talking about here is valid for the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineers can directly obtain this document. Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineers, on the other hand, can only obtain Elevators and certificates below 1 kV.

If there are no Electrical Facilities in the areas you plan to work in the future, meeting these conditions will not add much to you, on the contrary, taking lessons and learning something about the field you want to specialize will be more beneficial for you.

Now, let’s take a look at the need for Electrical and Electronics Engineer in our country. Most of the jobs in our country, and that the most frequently used titles based on the site where we do research across Turkey as of 29.07.2020;

  • 941 people in the “Electrical Engineer” position ,
  • 615 people in the “Electrical and Electronics Engineer” position ,
  • 868 people in the “Electronics Engineer” position ,
  • 207 people in “Communication Engineer” position ,
  • For 829 people in the “Software Engineer” position ,

It is seen that there is an active job posting. Based on the Electrical and Electronics Engineers who have also improved themselves in the field of software, there is a total of “ 3460 ” employment opportunities. Some of these advertisements have been open for a long time and do not reflect the truth as of the candidate sought. If we ignore these, it is seen that 3000 Electrical or Electronics / Software Engineers are needed in our country in the private sector. On the public side, 100-300 Electrical or Electronics Engineers are employed annually. In other words, when we consider the best possibility, a new employment door is opened for 3500-4500 Electrical or Electronics Engineers in our country.

Of course, these numbers are given for Electrical or Electronics Engineers who want to work in the field. Thousands of our Engineer colleagues, who cannot work in their field, are employed in irrelevant titles with very low salaries. Even this situation reveals that the necessary importance and sensitivity is not shown to the engineering profession in our country.

I would like you to know that you can reach me from the comments section or my social media accounts during the preference period, and that I am with you to resolve your questions about the said sections in this process.

I wish you all success in the “test of life” which is the real test.
